Phoenix was bred, raised and trained by us. She wants attention and will come running to you in the pasture. She is a very sweet mare, with a soft trusting eye. She has been handled correctly on a daily basis from birth and has perfect ground manners and trusts people.

We hauled her in a trailer with her dam as a foal and have been hauling her to the trails weekly since August. She loads and unloads from a trailer quietly and without hesitation and will haul relaxed and eat her hay while hauling. She cross ties in the barn and will also stand tied to the trailer. She received her first bath as a foal and is comfortable with bathing even while you give her a complete shampoo. She picks up all of her feet easily and will stand quietly for the farrier. We started shoeing her in October 2009.

Phoenix has been started with basic dressage training and has been ridden in dressage clinics, but needs more exposure to different arenas before she will be ready to show. She knows back up, turn on the forehand, leg yield at the walk, side pass and turn on the hindquarters. She will trot in a nice 20-meter circle, maintaining a steady springy trot. She picks up the correct canter lead without speeding up at the trot. She can halt square from the trot and will halt from the canter after just a few trot steps. She also knows all of her voice commands (walk, trot, canter, whoa, whup (used in combination with a half-halt), pick-up (for the feet)), etc. She moves straight and really gets her hind legs under her body.

Phoenix really enjoys the trail. She prefers to follow, but will lead when asked. She will still spook on the trail, but for an assertive rider she is easy to correct and continue on. Phoenix is an easy keeper and no blade of hay goes uneaten in her presence. She needs consistent conditioning to maintain her best body weight. She also drinks from creeks and ponds on trail. Hill work has been very easy for her with her strong hindquarters. Phoenix can easily carry a light weight or middle weight rider in endurance. She was relaxed and seemed to really enjoy her first endurance ride. She ate and drank well, laid down to sleep at night, pulsed down immediately upon arrival at vet checks and finished with all As on her vet card.

Phoenix will do best with an assertive, knowledgeable rider that can continue her training and develop her to her full potential. If you want to learn the sport of endurance and live in the DFW area, she is available on a lease arrangement in our barn. We will continue to train her and teach you the sport of endurance, including riding with you in your first few competitions. If you also want to take dressage lessons we can assist you by hauling to dressage clinics & lessons and videos of your arena work.
