Where: TADRA Equestrian Campground for camping, registration, all veterinary checks, ride meetings – Competition will be on the 75 miles of permanently marked equestrian trails at the LBJ National Grasslands near Decatur, TX. This event is authorized under a special use permit with the USDA Forest Service, Caddo-LBJ National Grasslands. This is a great endurance ride to try for your first competition. The trails are well maintained, permanently marked equestrian trails that range from wide sandy trails where you can easily ride 2 horses side by side, to single track trails through wooded areas. There will be several places to water your horse on trail as well as in camp. Depending on how much conditioning you and your horse have done, we usually suggest that people start with the Introductory Ride or the 25 mile distance. With both rides a veterinarian will check your horse the day before the ride and at the end of the ride. On the 25, you will complete 1 trail loop returning to camp to have your horse checked by a veterinarian and for a short required hold time, so you and your horse can rest, eat and drink and get ready for your last loop. Your time stops at the end of the first loop and the end of the ride when your horse’s pulse reaches 60 bpm. There will be a first time riders meeting immediately after the main pre-ride meeting for more in-depth information and Q&A. Directions and more detailed information are on the entry form.
