Captain, as we call him, has been in our barn for training since December 2014. He is part of a dispersal sale for Wind Dream Arabians, a breeder that specialized in breeding National Champion halter mares to National Champion Performance Stallions. He looks very similar to his famous sire, but best of all inherited his trainability. Captain tries very hard to please and get everything right. He loves to hear "good boy" and to know that his rider is happy with him. He is a gentle sensitive horse and does best with a confident rider that can give light cues. He really listens to his rider and gets his confidence from his person. He is not a spooky horse and likes going down the trail in the lead, but he is fine with following another horse too. He is a quick learner and will side pass, turn on the forehand and the hindquarters and back-up. We have been training him on trail obstacles and he has become good at opening and closing gates and stepping over logs. He also has very good ground manners. He has been handled all his life and has always stood quietly for the farrier.
He is used to having his own stall, being blanketed in the winter, etc. He is a beautiful horse and a joy to ride and will make the right person a wonderful partner. Both his trot and canter are smooth and graceful. In the pasture he stays out of the way of more aggressive horses and will not challenge any of the others. He was the only gelding at Wind Dream, so he has always been outnumbered by bossy mares in the pasture.
Captain is extremely well bred, but about the time he would have ordinarily gone to the show ring, his owner was focused on showing his best mares that he intended to keep to produce offspring that he could sell for large amounts. So, being a gelding, Captain was put on the "back burner".
He is sired by Hucklebey Berry+/ a 5 time National Champion English Pleasure horse (3 of those were unanimous with up to 5 judges) and a leading sire of the Arabian breed, producing numerous National Champions.
